Neighbours and emergency crews tackle rooftop blaze
A fire that broke out on Monday in a house in the municipality of Tinajo, in western Lanzarote, was controlled and extinguished thanks to the rapid intervention of neighbours and emergency services, according to the Lanzarote Security and Emergencies Consortium. The incident left no one injured and damage was limited to the area affected by the flames.
Coordinated emergency response
The alarm was raised at 1:55 pm, reporting a fire in a property on Calle Seña Lorenza. Immediately, an intervention plan was activated, mobilising several operational resources from the consortium. While en route to the location, emergency teams were informed that the fire was located in a utility room on the roof of the house. In those initial moments, neighbours from the surrounding area were attempting to douse the flames, with a significant accumulation of smoke visible.
Extinguishing operations and aftermath
Once at the scene, crews confirmed the presence of visible flames and abundant smoke, prompting them to immediately begin firefighting operations. They used both jet and spray water techniques, a standard method for controlling fire and preventing its spread to other parts of the building. Throughout the intervention, reinforcements from the Central Park joined the effort, with additional crews and support vehicles allowing for the total control of the fire to be accelerated.
After extinguishing the flames, firefighters carried out overhaul and cooling-down procedures, ensuring no active hotspots remained that could reignite the fire. Once these checks were completed, the Consortium declared the operation over, confirming the fire was completely out. No personal injuries were reported, a point emphasised by the emergency services, who underlined the importance of a rapid and coordinated response to such incidents.
