Royal arrival in the capital
Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar, the Three Kings of the East, have arrived in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The monarchs and their royal entourages disembarked this Monday morning at the city’s Naval Base. There, the mayor, Carolina Darias, presented them with the city’s Magic Key, which will allow the three kings to enter every home in the municipality tonight.
A parade of magic and illusion
Despite the rain, thousands of children turned out to welcome the Three Kings. The real magic, however, will begin at 16:30, when the grand parade fills the capital’s streets with joy and excitement. The procession will set off from the Castillo de La Luz and travel along Calles Juan Rejón and Albareda, through the Santa Catalina park, and along Presidente Alvear, León y Castillo and Calle Muelle Las Palmas, before finishing at the San Telmo park.
A spectacular procession for all
The parade promises a host of surprises. Characters from the Disney universe, from Dumbo to the stars of Toy Story, will join traditional princes and princesses to wow the crowds, both as live performers and as striking inflatables. The Minions and characters from the world of Harry Potter will also be part of the royal procession. The parade will feature nearly twenty vehicles and include circus acrobats, marching bands, and dancers.
Traditions and accessibility
As is tradition, the Roman centurions from the Casa de Galicia will also be present, tasked with clearing the way for the floats carrying Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar from the Castillo de La Luz. From these floats, the Kings will collect the last requests from children before delivering their presents on this, the most magical night of the year. Furthermore, the parade route will include an adapted space for people sensitive to noise, with a silent section set up between the Julio Luengo tunnels and the Hospital Santa Catalina.
The welcome ceremony was also attended by the Councillor for Culture, Josu Íguez; the Rear Admiral commanding the Naval Command of the Canary Islands, Santiago de Colsa Trueba; the President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada; and the President of the Casa Galicia de Las Palmas, Albino Aneiros. It was the prelude to a very special day in which the three Magi will tour the streets of the capital in the Great Parade.
