TheGrefg’s Epic Tour of All 7 Canary Islands

A Canarian Archipelago Adventure

The Canary Islands welcome millions of visitors each year, with most travelers choosing to deeply explore a single island. However, some adventurous souls opt to experience the unique character of several—or even all—of the archipelago’s diverse islands. This is exactly what content creator David Cánovas Martínez, better known to his millions of followers as TheGrefg, set out to do. The Murcia-native dedicated the entire month of August to an epic tour of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro, accompanied by his partner, trainer and fellow content creator Sofía García.

Documenting the journey across the islands

Throughout their trip, TheGrefg shared stunning visuals from various locations, including dramatic black sand beaches, a panoramic shot of the Charco de Isla Cangrejo rock pool in Santiago del Teide, and the breathtaking Mirador de la Peña viewpoint on El Hierro. He kicked off the digital chronicle of his journey on his YouTube channel with a video from Lanzarote, the starting point of a tour spanning more than twenty days to discover the entire archipelago (except La Graciosa). In this video, he explains how the idea to visit the Canaries was born, outlines his ambitious itinerary, and reminisces about his previous trip to Tenerife in 2023.

Highlights from Lanzarote

That previous Tenerife visit included an ascent to the summit of Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak, and was documented in videos of him working out in various spots around the island, like the famous Las Teresitas beach. His current adventure with Sofía García saw them exploring Lanzarote’s key attractions together. They visited the stunning Charco Verde lagoon, the pristine beaches of Papagayo, the otherworldly Jameos del Agua lava tubes, and the historic town of Teguise.

Beyond sightseeing, they immersed themselves in the local culture by sampling traditional Canarian cuisine and tasting wines produced from the unique volcanic terroir of ‘la isla conejera’ (the rabbit island), as Lanzarote is affectionately known. TheGrefg plans to release videos from each island on his channel in the coming days, detailing his experiences in each unique location.

An honest island review

The couple’s conclusion about Lanzarote came with both positive and negative points. On the less favorable side, they noted, “There’s a lot of wind on this island. It’s true that it helps make the temperature more bearable, but there is a lot of wind. Also, some tourist sites are okay to visit but they’re not exactly mind-blowing.” On the other hand, they were eager to highlight what they loved most: “El Volcán del Cuervo seemed magical to me, the Grietas (cracks) are absolutely worth it, and as for beaches, we chose Famara beach. It’s very unique; I’ve never been on an island where it feels like you’re on the floor of a volcano with such a dark landscape. I’ve really liked the beaches and the roads, and I highly recommend watching the sunset from Papagayo beach.”

A potential return for sports and sun

This might not be the last time Lanzarote sees TheGrefg, as he stated he would like to return for a visit with a less touristy and more sports-focused approach, potentially even for the famous Lanzarote Ironman triathlon. His passion for sport was evident during his last trip to Tenerife, where he climbed to the top of Mount Teide alongside Tenerife-based content creator Rotren—a challenge he filmed that surpassed a million views on Instagram.

That previous visit sparked various rumors, including the possibility of the Esland Awards being celebrated on the island or even a potential move from Andorra to Tenerife. These speculations persisted despite his meeting with the president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, though they ultimately did not come to pass. True to form, the sports-loving creator was also seen with athlete Sergio Peinado taking part in the Deka Fit fitness competition in the south of Tenerife and going for training runs along Las Teresitas.
