Tenerife Aims for Record with World’s Longest Turrón

Tenerife’s Sweetest Challenge

Tenerife is gearing up for a historic challenge. On December 13th, the municipality of Santiago del Teide will host the creation of the world’s longest turrón, a traditional Spanish nougat. This ambitious public event will bring together chefs and pastry experts from CYRE Canarias and Madrid, alongside local residents and visitors, for a day dedicated to culinary excellence.

A Bid for the Guinness World Record

Organized by the Santiago del Teide Town Council in collaboration with the local Business Association (ASEMTEIDE), the event has a clear goal: to secure an official Guinness World Record and establish the municipality as a gastronomic reference point both within and beyond the Canary Islands. This initiative follows a successful test run in Madrid on November 7th, where approximately 60 meters of turrón were created to mark World Turrón Day. The plan is for the Canarian team to produce a massive 1,100-meter tablet, which will then be joined with the Madrid segment to create a single, record-breaking turrón measuring 1,160 meters in total length.

Celebrating Local Flavors

The recipe for this monumental sweet will highlight quintessential local products, with honey and almonds taking center stage. These ingredients are the backbone of the area’s traditional confectionery, and their use will authentically showcase the flavors that define Tenerife’s culinary identity. More than just a record attempt, this initiative is a powerful move to promote gastronomic tourism and celebrate the high-quality local products that are integral to the island’s heritage.

The Epicenter of Canarian Christmas Tradition

The union of the Canarian and Madrid segments will result in a nougat stretching over a kilometer long. As one of Tenerife’s premier Christmas events, the creation of the world’s longest turrón is set to transform Santiago del Teide into the epicenter of Canarian flavor and tradition. Beyond its impressive scale, the event is designed to stimulate the local economy by fostering collaboration between communities and attracting tourists eager to witness this unique and delicious spectacle.
