Tenerife Weather Settles as Atlantic Front Approaches

Unsettled spell draws to a close

Tenerife and the wider province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife are beginning to bid farewell to a spell of unsettled weather as the weekend approaches. Meteorologist Rubén Vázquez, from Meteovigo, has explained that the archipelago will still feel the final effects of a rather worn-out Atlantic front, which will bring some rainfall and a drop in temperatures in specific parts of the Canaries before conditions definitively improve.

A relatively calm interlude

The expert confirms that the Canary Islands will face the coming days with relatively calm weather compared to mainland Spain. However, Rubén Vázquez warns that it will not be completely stable. An Atlantic front will eventually reach the archipelago at the beginning of next week, bringing weak and scattered precipitation, especially on the islands with higher terrain and on the more exposed northern slopes.

Weak rains for Tenerife and the eastern isles

In Tenerife, weather models point to a scenario of insignificant rainfall, associated with the arrival of an already weakened Atlantic front. “The front will reach the Canaries quite worn out according to the latest model adjustments, but we will still see precipitation, that is certain,” says Rubén Vázquez. The rains will concentrate mainly on the north face of the island, affecting mid-altitude and summit areas, while the south will generally remain clear of the instability.

The precipitation will generally be weak and scattered, with a higher probability in the north of Gran Canaria and, according to some scenarios, in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, although the expected accumulations are modest. The models agree that this is not an episode of widespread or intense rainfall.

La Palma in line for more persistent showers

According to forecasts, the bulk of the rain will concentrate on La Palma, where it could be more persistent and lead to higher accumulations over the weekend. The meteorologist confirms that no active weather warnings are expected across the entire province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, or the rest of the archipelago during the weekend, either for wind or rain, which reinforces the prediction of a moderate episode.

Cooler temperatures but no dramatic plunge

Temperatures will remain slightly lower than usual for this time of year, with a cool feel, especially in high areas, due to the persistence of colder air masses of Atlantic origin, though without any sharp drops.

Islands spared the worst of mainland storms

Rubén Vázquez offers some good news, stating that the Canaries will remain on the sidelines of the more adverse episodes affecting the mainland. The situation there is very different, where Storm Goretti has brought very intense wind gusts, with values close to 150 kilometres per hour in the north, and heavy snowfall in mountain areas, particularly in the Pyrenees.
