Tenerife Closes Trails and Bans Canyoning as Storm Francis Hits

Emergency measures enacted for island safety

The Cabildo of Tenerife has closed several walking trails and prohibited activities such as canyoning due to alerts decreed as Storm Francis passes over the islands. The island’s president, Rosa Dávila, stated in an audio message released by the Cabildo that among the closed trails are the Afur route in Anaga and the Masca Gorge path. She warned these could become dangerous due to the anticipated conditions from the storm.

Emergency plans activated across the island

Dávila confirmed that the Cabildo de Tenerife has activated its emergency plan in response to weather alerts for heavy rain in the south and west of the island, as well as warnings for coastal phenomena, high winds, and a preliminary storm alert. She added that the council has recommended all local municipalities activate their own municipal emergency plans.

Public urged to heed official advice

The island’s president strongly advised the public to follow all official recommendations and stay informed through official channels for the duration of the adverse weather.
