Dual Accidents Cause Major Traffic Collapse on Tenerife’s TF-5

Major Disruption on Tenerife’s Northern Motorway

Two accidents on Tenerife’s Northern Motorway (TF-5) have caused a complete traffic collapse at several points along the key route. According to sources from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (112 Canarias), the two incidents occurred almost consecutively around 12:20 pm, blocking one of the island’s main transport arteries.

Location of the Incidents and Widespread Congestion

The collisions, one near La Corujera and another at kilometre 30 of the motorway, both took place within the municipality of Santa Úrsula. This led to tailbacks lasting for hours on the TF-5. The disruption was not confined to the motorway itself. Faced with the standstill, many drivers decided to divert through La Orotava, which ultimately caused lengthy queues on the Provincial Road, the TF-217. The TF-21 also suffered from a build-up of vehicles, as the accident and the volume of traffic on the TF-217 tested the patience of motorists to its limit.

Emergency Services Response and Southern Disruption

Several people were injured in the accidents on the northbound carriageway of the motorway towards Santa Cruz, though the severity of their injuries is not yet known. Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium, ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), and the Guardia Civil traffic police are all at the scene. Road maintenance crews have also been deployed.

This collapse in the north comes on top of major disruption in the south earlier this morning. Almost simultaneously, Tenerife’s two primary roads have suffered severe traffic paralysis. The TF-1 in the south had to be closed in a section near Las Chafiras following a serious multi-vehicle accident.
