Tenerife South Airport Noise Insulation Plan Begins
Aena, Spain’s airport operator, has launched its Noise Insulation Plan for areas surrounding Tenerife South Airport, approving soundproofing measures for 367 homes. The initiative, announced this Monday, follows approval during the third meeting of a coordination group that includes representatives from Aena, Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition, the Canary Islands Government, Tenerife’s local council, and the municipalities of Arona, Granadilla de Abona, and San Miguel de Abona.
Pending Approvals and Additional Properties
Another 135 homes are awaiting owner approval for proposed insulation measures. Once confirmed, Aena will begin the necessary soundproofing work. The plan has already seen strong interest, with 175 additional properties meeting eligibility requirements. Acoustic testing will determine if these homes also require insulation. Meanwhile, 139 more have applied but must complete documentation first.
Further Assessments and Scope
After acoustic tests on 215 properties, Aena confirmed the need for insulation work, with projects now moving forward. The current census identifies 2,456 homes and noise-sensitive buildings potentially eligible for the program. However, 1,015 property owners have yet to apply. The plan aims to mitigate aircraft noise for residents while maintaining airport operations.
