€900k for Tenerife North Airport Noise Insulation Works

Funding Approved for Airport Noise Reduction

Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) announced on Thursday the allocation of €900,000 for soundproofing works. The funding will cover noise insulation for 68 homes and the first phase of works at the Geneto Secondary School (IES), all properties located near Tenerife North Airport. AENA also stated that approval for a further €656,500, corresponding to the soundproofing of another 75 homes, is pending acceptance by the recipients.

Meeting Reviews Insulation Plan Progress

A follow-up meeting for the acoustic insulation plan was held on Thursday, attended by representatives from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the State Air Safety Agency, and the town councils of La Laguna, Tegueste, and Tacoronte. During the meeting, it was reported that there are 36 new applications for inclusion in the scheme. Furthermore, after relevant sound level measurements, corrective actions have been approved for an additional 102 homes.

Hundreds of Properties Still Eligible to Apply

The total number of properties where sound insulation works have already been completed now stands at 1,121 (1,024 in La Laguna, 42 in Tacoronte, and 55 in Tegueste), with another 82 currently in the execution phase. The current register of homes included in the Tenerife North Airport-La Laguna City Acoustic Insulation Plan, following its expansion this year, totals 3,150. This figure includes 649 new properties in La Laguna, 44 in Tacoronte, and 3 in Tegueste. To date, a total of 1,694 applications have been received.

Consequently, AENA reminds residents that a significant number of properties—specifically 1,456—are still eligible for the scheme, but their owners have not yet applied for acoustic insulation.
