New Tenerife Lottery Outlet Sells €200,000 Jackpot Ticket
“It has been an intense few weeks, thanks to everyone who trusted us… tomorrow could be a great day.” This was the message posted on Instagram this Monday, on the eve of Three Kings’ Day, by the team at the El Cisne lottery administration to mark the end of sales for the extraordinary El Niño draw. They were not wrong in predicting a promising day, as they not only sold the first prize-winning ticket but did so in record time: they have only been running the shop for two months.
A Dream Start in Santa Cruz
Luis Manuel González has been the owner of this sales point, located on Puerto Canseco street in the island capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, since 10 November. From that Monday until Tuesday, 6 January, a total of 58 days passed—enough time to distribute €200,000 to a single lucky winner. This is according to figures from Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, though the lottery seller himself says they sold four tenths of the winning ticket. Whatever the total, they have been able to hang the sign with the winning number 06.703 on their facade.
Tears of Joy and a Double Celebration
This morning, González and the rest of the workers paused from opening presents for a moment to go and celebrate at the administration, which is one of three sales points—along with El Chicharro and El Corte Inglés—that have distributed luck in Santa Cruz. “When I found out, I was surrounded by my whole family. Both my sister-in-law, who also works here, and I were in tears; we had a feeling, we had even bought a bottle of champagne,” recounted the owner.
In addition to their El Niño triumph, the day before they had another reason to celebrate, this time with another game: La Primitiva. Although they do not know the exact amount, they do know it was a major prize, meaning it exceeds €2,000. “I said that since we had already given out a prize in this one, nothing would happen on Kings’ Day, but quite the opposite, it has been a double joy,” he confessed.
A Historic Outlet With a Fresh Future
Although the current owner has been there for less than two months, the lucky sales point is a longstanding, traditional administration in the capital. González took it over from a lady who had run the business for many years. “She helped us a huge amount with all the paperwork, she was one of the first people I called when I received the news and she was over the moon,” he said.
Neither he nor any acquaintances scratched a winning ticket themselves. However, the mere fact of selling a winning tenth has filled them with “immense joy.” The prize will also smooth their path, as, in his own words, they are still in a growth phase. “We are just changing the entire setup, refurbishing the premises to make it more modern,” he added.
Back to Business With Hopeful Anticipation
Now that the initial euphoria of the first hours—and the first major prize—has subsided, it is time to think about returning to work. Although fortune has brushed past them, they will have to wait until the next draw to get their hands on the coveted €200,000. The lottery seller does hope to meet the winner soon, however: “I hope at some point they pop in.”
