telde mayor invents censure motion claims

Telde Mayor Accused of Inventing Censure Motion

New Canaries Condemns Mayor’s “Shameful Media Spectacle”

The spokesperson and local secretary of New Canaries Bloque Canarista in Telde, José Luis Macías, has responded to statements made by the mayor, Juan Antonio Peña, and the president of Municipalistas Primero Canarias, Óscar Hernández, regarding malicious rumours of a censure motion in the municipality. The formation has expressed its firmest denunciation and condemnation of what it calls the “shameful media spectacle” staged by Juan Antonio Peña in recent days with Óscar Hernández’s support. “They are both lying and will be exposed by the public,” the party stated.

A Record of Neglect and Failed Leadership

New Canarias criticises Peña for having spent the last two and a half years turning municipal politics into a populist media soap opera, constantly lying to cover his lack of leadership and his absence of a roadmap for the town. The party accuses him of hiding from residents that he has plunged the local administration into absolute organisational and institutional decay, neglect, and abandonment. This, they argue, is easily seen in the sorry state of streets, parks, roads, sports facilities, pavements, and public spaces, the lack of responses and solutions from social services, and a desperate inability to resolve administrative procedures that frustrate residents, even for simple matters.

A “Phantom” Censure Motion to Distract from Failure

The party further accuses the Mayor of Telde of inventing a supposed censure motion to oust him from power. This claim, they say, has surprised other political formations, including those within his own government, and was firmly denied from the outset for lacking any credibility or foundation. NC-BC de Telde underscores that Peña, “overwhelmed by his manifest incapacity to govern Telde effectively, has tried, once again, to deceive our neighbours with a supposed censure motion.” They allege he is flaunting his well-known “pathological victimhood” to hide his ineptitude as mayor and divert public attention from his dreadful management.

The local formation also criticises the mayor for discussing this invented censure motion in a media outlet. “It seems logical to infer that this phantom censure motion is more desired than feared by Juan Antonio Peña himself,” the local party asserts.

Contrasting Fiction with Telde’s Harsh Reality

New Canarias in Telde has detailed what it calls the unchanging and demonstrable reality of the municipality, pointing to the absence of road resurfacing, unexecuted works, closed beaches, lost subsidies, and unimplemented benefits for Social Services. The party stresses that the invention of a non-existent censure motion and the continuous statements by Juan Antonio Peña, now joined by Óscar Hernández in trying to discredit New Canarias, are the clearest proof that “this government has lost its way and its credibility.”

Absurd Allegations of Instigating Censure Motions

Finally, the party has recalled that leaders of Primero Canarias have accused New Canarias of being behind censure motions in the town halls of Santa María de Guía, San Mateo, Valsequillo, and Agaete. However, the party notes that in San Mateo, for example, such an assertion would mean New Canarias promoted a censure motion against itself, as it was part of the government before the motion and moved into opposition afterwards. “This demonstrates the absurdity of the claim,” the communiqué concludes.
