Over 2,100 Visit Teide National Park on First Snow Day

Successful First Day for Teide Snow Transport Plan

The special security and transport operation deployed for visits to Teide National Park following the snowfall left by Storm ‘Emilia’ concluded its first day on Saturday without any notable incidents. The Cabildo de Tenerife reported a high degree of civility from visitors, with over 2,100 people recorded. The return journey for those who accessed the national park to enjoy the snow was completed entirely without issue.

Free Shuttle Buses Ease Congestion

Public transport access was provided via free shuttle buses (‘guaguas lanzadera’) during the established hours of 10:00 to 14:00, with pick-up points in Aguamansa, Vilaflor, and La Esperanza. From 14:00 onwards, the service was dedicated solely to return journeys until 17:00. President Rosa Dávila thanked the public for their understanding, noting that approximately 2,132 people used the shuttle buses. This prevented the queues and crowds associated with an estimated 710 private vehicles, thereby contributing to the protection of the natural environment and a better visitor experience.

Authorities Praise Coordinated Effort

The island’s Minister for Mobility, Eulalia García, recognised the effort of the public transport company and its staff. “I want to highlight the enormous work and commitment of the TITSA drivers, who from the early hours mobilised the entire necessary fleet to meet high demand in a complex environment like Teide National Park,” she stated. García also emphasised the importance of the service being free as a key measure to promote sustainable mobility.

Blanca Pérez, the island’s Minister for Natural Environment and Security, highlighted the smooth operation and the value of coordinated work among all personnel involved. “The ‘Operativo Nevada’ has functioned exemplarily, meeting all planned objectives and allowing thousands of people to enjoy the snow in complete safety and order,” she said. A total of 120 workers from the Cabildo (including Environmental Agents, BRIFOR personnel, and Roads staff), Local Police, and Civil Protection were involved, ensuring permanent safety and orderly access control.

Operation to Continue

The established shuttle routes were: from La Caldera to El Portillo Alto (Aguamansa); from Calle La Paz to the Teleférico cable car (Vilaflor); and from Calle La Sardinera to Izaña (La Esperanza). The special operation will remain active, as planned, until 10:00 on Monday, 22 December, to guarantee surveillance and control of the area throughout the intended period.
