Teide Dressed in Winter White by Storm Emilia
Teide National Park has been adorned in its finest winter attire thanks to its new designer, Storm Emilia. The weather system has brought precipitation in the form of snow to the summit of Tenerife, painting the volcano and its surroundings with a thick, clear white mantle. The park is now closed to the public.
Park Access Closed Until Monday
In light of the alert situation across the Canary Islands, and particularly on Tenerife, the island’s council (Cabildo de Tenerife) has closed all access roads to the National Park until Monday. This decisive action aims to prevent any problems or dangerous overcrowding.
Public Cooperation and Ongoing Hazards
Authorities have noted that, thanks to the awareness of local residents regarding such meteorological events, there have been no major incidents so far this Saturday. However, they strongly advise the public to continue exercising extreme caution.
The main hazards are on the roads leading to the peak. Several points on the access routes to Mount Teide have experienced landslides typical of the high mountain environment, including falling rocks, earth, and tree branches. This debris has posed a significant obstacle for emergency services vehicles travelling to the area to safeguard people and property.
