Car Plunges 15 Metres in Teide National Park Accident

Three injured in Teide National Park road accident

Last Friday, 5 December, an accident between a car and a motorcycle in Teide National Park left three people with moderate injuries. The incident occurred on the stretch of the TF-21 road that runs from Portezuelo to the Roques de García. The car involved left the road and plunged approximately 15 metres down a slope, coming to rest upside down.

Overturned car becomes macabre tourist attraction

Four days after the crash, the vehicle remains in the exact spot where it landed, becoming an unexpected and grim attraction for tourists visiting this area of the National Park. The white car, which had two occupants, ended up overturned after crossing the steep incline separating its current position from the road.

Emergency response and condition of the injured

According to assessments by the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), a 54-year-old man sustained moderate trauma and was taken by a basic ambulance to Quirón Tenerife Hospital. A 69-year-old man suffered several moderate injuries and was evacuated to Hospital Parque Tenerife. A 66-year-old woman also sustained various moderate traumatic injuries and was taken to the same hospital.

Major emergency operation deployed

The Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (CECOES) 1-1-2 activated a large emergency response. This included Tenerife Fire Brigade, who were tasked with securing the crashed vehicle after its fall, and the Red Cross, which provided first aid to the three casualties. SUC medical personnel later attended to the motorcyclist and the car’s occupants before they were transferred to hospital.

The Guardia Civil managed traffic in the area and compiled the official report, while staff from Teide National Park collaborated throughout the entire operation.
