Storm Francis Disrupts Canary Islands Flights on New Year’s Day

Storm Francis disrupts Canary Islands travel

The effects of Storm Francis began to be felt across the Canary Islands today, Thursday 1st January, with five flight cancellations reported. According to information provided by Aena to Europa Press, the cancellations have affected connections between the islands of La Palma and Tenerife.

Specific flight cancellations and diversions

Specifically, there have been two cancellations between La Palma Airport and Tenerife North Airport, and a further cancellation on the route from Tenerife North to La Palma. Additionally, two flights were diverted—one between Tenerife North and La Palma, and another between Tenerife South and La Palma. Both of these diversions were subsequently converted into full cancellations.

Passengers advised to check flight status

Meanwhile, the air navigation manager Enaire has advised passengers to check their flight status due to the adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Francis. The authority indicated that the storm is triggering safety-related operational regulations at Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Tenerife South airports.
