Historic Tenerife Hotel Reborn as Radisson Resort

A New Chapter for a Puerto de la Cruz Landmark

The iconic Hotel Parque San Antonio, a long-standing fixture in the scenic Taoro Park area of Puerto de la Cruz, is beginning an exciting new era. This December, the hotel will reopen under the international Radisson brand, marking the chain’s debut on the island of Tenerife. After a comprehensive restoration, the establishment will be known as the Radisson Resort & Residences Tenerife, officially welcoming guests from December 15th.

Elevating Puerto de la Cruz to Five-Star Status

This transformation elevates the complex to become the municipality’s third five-star hotel, a prestigious quality certification it now shares with the Hotel Botánico & Oriental Spa Garden and the Gran Hotel Taoro. The ambitious renovation project began in May after receiving the necessary urban planning permits from the City Council’s Sustainable City department. The work undertaken since has resulted in a complete overhaul of the facilities, bringing them in line with the highest standards of sustainability, energy efficiency, and architectural quality.

Blending International Standards with Local Identity

The property is owned by Tenerife Assets Company, which has significant Canarian investment, and will be managed by Canarian Hospitality, a specialist in developing high-level accommodation in the Canary Islands. The project’s vision is to position Puerto de la Cruz within the international premium tourism circuit while carefully maintaining its local identity. Although the hotel leaves behind 57 years of history, the renovation has respectfully preserved the building’s essential Canarian architectural character.

The renewed complex will retain classic elements like its four-sided pitched roofs but will incorporate a more contemporary design suited to its new five-star category. “The intervention has also enhanced the natural brightness and highlighted its gardens and trees, which are now conceived as climate shelters within the grounds,” notes David Hernández, the Councillor for Sustainable City.

A Commitment to Sustainability and Accessibility

Sustainability has been a core focus of the renovation. Three black water wells from the old building have been eliminated, and the entire sanitation system has been completely renewed and connected to the municipal network. This ensures more efficient water management and represents a significant step towards a more sustainable accommodation model.

The reform has also thoughtfully addressed accessibility and staff well-being. “In the rooms, hydraulic systems have been installed in the beds to facilitate the work of the cleaning staff,” Hernández explains. Furthermore, ramps have been constructed in all common areas, replacing flight of stairs that previously hindered mobility. This is a crucial improvement, as guests previously had to navigate stairs to access key areas like the dining room and reception.

Expanding Capacity and Ambition

The renovation is more than just a facelift; it represents a substantial expansion of the hotel’s capacity. The complex, which previously had just 50 rooms, will now boast a total of 240 more spacious accommodations. This increase in size and quality is what enabled the application for the coveted five-star rating. The company behind the reform, Acosta Matos, saw great potential in the property’s characteristics.

As the company’s president and director, José Daniel Acosta, states, “Thanks to the typology, services, spaces, rooms, and their size, we determined that we could move up in category.” This ambitious project signals a bright new future for a beloved local landmark, ready to offer a world-class experience rooted in the unique charm of Tenerife.
