Major funding for Tenerife tourist hub
The Canary Islands Minister for Tourism and Employment, Jessica de León, has signed an order granting a subsidy of €1,872,647.86 for improvements to the tourist areas of Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife. The funding, requested by the Tenerife council, will enable various works in the municipality aimed at “improving the tourist experience and the enjoyment of these public spaces by residents,” while also guaranteeing safer environments.
Enhancements for the iconic Lago Martiánez
At the Lago Martiánez complex, designed by César Manrique and inaugurated in 1977, new visitor furniture will be purchased. This includes 1,800 sun umbrellas and 300 waste bin baskets, ensuring comfort and basic amenities at this pioneering tourist infrastructure that integrates art and nature.
Upgrades along the Playa Martiánez promenade
Along the Playa Martiánez zone, the existing handrail will be replaced with a new, more durable and low-maintenance one made from welded aluminium or similar material. New LED lighting will also be installed, increasing both safety and the visual appeal of the pedestrian walkway. This promenade is a key axis connecting the La Paz area with Martiánez and forms the main entrance to the municipality for many visitors.
Revitalising the historic Parque Taoro
In the emblematic Parque Taoro, a space situated on a promontory with privileged views over the city and coast, works will be undertaken to improve the overall perception of the park. This includes the restoration of fountains, renewal of handrails, increased lighting levels, conservation and improvement of pavements, as well as the adaptation of accessible paths, renovation of toilets, and gardening and irrigation works. These actions aim to improve the safety, accessibility, and enjoyment of the environment while conserving the park’s natural and architectural heritage.
A strategic investment for residents and visitors
Minister Jessica de León emphasised that these projects are aligned with the Canary Islands Strategy for Island Tourism Infrastructures and represent a significant improvement to the municipality’s tourist offering, benefiting both visitors and local residents. The maximum deadline for the completion of all these works is set for 31 December 2028.
