Over 300 New Homes Approved in Los Realejos

Planning Boost for Over 300 Homes

More than 300 publicly subsidised and private development homes in Los Realejos have now been granted the necessary planning licences. This follows a period in which the Municipal Urban Planning Department has streamlined procedures in recent months, a process driven by the approval of the new General Urban Plan (Plan General de Ordenación, PGO), which comes into effect on the 23rd.

Fundamental Leap for Local Housing

The Councillor for Urban Planning, Noelia González, stated that both aspects “have been fundamental in making this important leap forward for new housing projects in Los Realejos.” The mayor, Adolfo González, highlighted “the interest from owners of developable land in beginning to push ahead with new housing developments for purchase and for official protection.”

At the same time, the mayor drew attention to “those new possibilities that the General Urban Plan will open for the creation of development units and urban projects.”

Aiming to Keep Residents in the Municipality

Another positive aspect of this management that the mayor emphasised is fostering local roots. According to Adolfo González, “What we are seeking is that residents of Los Realejos who want to buy a home in their town can do so and are not forced to go and live in another municipality because there are no options to buy or rent in Los Realejos.”

The appeal to investors from the new municipal planning framework is presented as a draw for new local development. “We have made it our mission to make all the machinery available to anyone who wants to invest here to expand the residential offering and address a growing problem,” he insisted, alluding to the serious difficulties currently posed by access to housing “across the whole country and in the Canary Islands.”

Increased Interest from Developers

Councillor Noelia González stressed that, following the approval of the General Urban Plan, “we are receiving more visits and holding conversations with landowners and developers who see in our town an opportunity to build residential buildings in various enclaves and neighbourhoods of the municipality.”

She conveyed that this circumstance “is good news for expanding the supply and possibilities of residing in Los Realejos, always under those planning criteria defined in the planning document.”

Valuing Effective Planning Work

Mayor Adolfo González underscored the value of the work carried out. He highlighted “the intense and effective work that has been done by the Municipal Urban Planning Department, achieving greater agility in processing and legal security, thereby facilitating the management of licences for housing construction. This satisfies residential demand, as well as attracting investment to the municipality, always based on meticulous land planning.”
