New Seismic Activity Recorded in Tenerife
The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan) has registered a new seismic swarm on the island of Tenerife. The activity occurred between 10:30 pm on 29 December 2025 and 1:14 am on 30 December.
Details of the Seismic Events
During this period of just under three hours, a total of 14 seismic events were detected. Of these, 11 could be accurately located, with the largest registering a magnitude of 1 on the Richter scale. The tremors were concentrated in the southwestern sector of the Las Cañadas caldera, at depths predominantly between 8 and 16 kilometres.
Familiar Pattern with No Increased Risk
Spectral analysis of the signals reveals a predominance of low frequencies. Involcan, communicating via social media, highlighted that this behaviour is similar to that observed in seismic swarms recorded in previous months and years, including the one that occurred on 7 November 2025.
The institute was precise in stating that this latest episode does not signify any change in the probability of a volcanic eruption in the short or medium term, which continues to remain low.
