Major Upgrade for Agaete’s Strategic Port
Puertos Canarios has awarded a contract for the construction of a new passenger terminal at the port of Las Nieves in the municipality of Agaete, Gran Canaria. The project, valued at 569,458.51 euros, has been granted to Construcciones Rodríguez Gaibao, S.L., which is expected to complete the work within an estimated eight-month timeframe, according to the Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility.
Enhancing Security and Passenger Experience
This significant development is designed to guarantee security for access to the port’s restricted area and improve pre-boarding controls for passengers. These upgrades are essential to meet the requirements set by the Ministry of the Interior and to comply with European Union audits. José Gilberto Moreno, the Managing Director of Puertos Canarios, emphasized that “the new terminal will reinforce the security and operational capacity of this strategic port for Gran Canaria’s maritime connectivity.”
A Centralized and Streamlined Facility
The project includes the creation of a new building dedicated to centralizing all pre-boarding checks. Additionally, a new perimeter enclosure will be constructed to better organize and channel passenger flow towards the vessels, ensuring a smoother and more efficient embarkation process for all travelers using this key gateway.
