Maspalomas Soul Festival Kicks Off with Memphis Legends

This Friday marks the start of the 9th Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival, launching with an opening night packed with raw energy, world-class talent, and pure soul. For three unforgettable days, San Agustín Beach will transform into a vibrant stage for thousands of music lovers at this free event that perfectly blends culture, gastronomy, family-friendly atmosphere, and some of the finest international voices in soul music.

Star-Studded Opening Night

Friday’s lineup features powerhouse performances from J.P. Bimeni and The Black Belts, Shunta Mosby, Dani McGhee, Candy Fox, Carlos Strong, and Jonté Mayon—six extraordinary voices with five artists hailing directly from Memphis, USA, the historic birthplace of soul. All performers except Bimeni will be backed by the legendary Memphis Music Hall of Fame Band, led by Kurt Clayton, delivering a repertoire steeped in classic soul authenticity. Local Canarian DJ Monterreina will kick off the festivities, heating up the beach with soul, funk, afrobeat, and tropical rhythms. The evening will be expertly hosted by festival veterans Rick Hutton and Sergio Miró, whose charismatic emceeing has become inseparable from the event’s identity.

More Than Just a Music Festival

Officially recognized as a Local Tourist Interest event, the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival has cemented its place as an essential summer highlight in the Canary Islands. Beyond the music, it offers a complete cultural and touristic experience that celebrates Gran Canaria’s natural beauty, local cuisine, and artistic talent. Organized by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Town Council, the festival strengthens the municipality’s cultural commitment and international profile while building cultural bridges through music—solidifying Gran Canaria’s position as a European soul music capital.
