Las Palmas Announces Property Tax Reduction for Residents
The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has announced a second voluntary payment period for municipal taxes, starting July 25, which includes a reduction in the Property Tax (IBI) for 98.9% of the city’s bills. The tax rate will drop by 5 basis points, from 0.67% to 0.62%, resulting in an average savings of 7.5% for eligible properties.
Who Benefits from the Tax Cut?
Francisco Hernández Spínola, Councilor for Presidency, Finance, Modernization, and Human Resources, confirmed that the reduction applies to both residential and non-residential properties, with a few exceptions. For non-residential buildings, the tax rate will also decrease to 0.62%, except for the top 10% of properties with a cadastral value exceeding €75,000—these will remain at the original 0.67% rate.
Extended Payment Deadlines and Additional Taxes
The payment period runs until November 28 and covers other municipal taxes and fees, including the Economic Activities Tax (IAE), special property taxes for rural or unique buildings, and public space occupation fees for beach sunbeds, ATMs, advertising billboards, and market stalls.
Convenient Payment Options
The City Council has introduced multiple payment channels, both online and in-person, to streamline the process. Bank direct debit is highlighted as a preferred option, allowing taxpayers to avoid surcharges and skip in-person payments. Kiosks occupying public spaces will follow a quarterly payment system, with the third installment due between July 1 and September 30 and the fourth between October 1 and December 31, 2025.
Avoiding Late Fees
Residents are encouraged to meet deadlines to avoid penalties. Payments can be made online or in person at the Taxpayer Assistance Office by appointment. The City Council emphasizes the importance of timely payments to ensure smooth processing.
