Las Palmas Port Authority Takes Legal Action on Vessels and Mall

Port Authority Moves to Clear Residential Boats

The Port Authority of Las Palmas will seek court authorization to remove 14 vessels being used as makeshift homes from the city’s marina, president Beatriz Calzada announced Friday. Following a board meeting, Calzada confirmed the authority also denied mooring renewals for six additional residential boats. The measures aim to reclaim public docks for their intended maritime use.

Legal Action Against Mall Tenant

Separately, the board approved legal proceedings to evict Explotaciones Sotavento SL from El Muelle shopping center over €400,000 in unpaid rent. Though four businesses remain operational—two owned by the tenant—the Port Authority hopes for voluntary surrender to relaunch the prime waterfront property. “This is one of the city’s most valuable locations,” emphasized Calzada, noting failed attempts to negotiate a payment plan.

Border Inspection Project Revised

A €18 million contract for a Border Inspection Point was terminated due to land issues, requiring €455,000 in compensation to builder Comsa. The redesigned project will merge agricultural and health inspections into a smaller, cost-efficient facility before rebidding.

Extended Agreements and Delayed Sale

The board extended Las Palmas’ firefighting and civil protection services contract for four years and renewed Silos Canarios’ concession for 15. Meanwhile, a land sale to Real Club Náutico yacht club was postponed pending administrative reports, though Calzada expects approval at the next meeting.
