Las Palmas Carnival Kicks Off 50th Year with Gala Honours

Carnival Honours 77 Key Contributors at 50th Anniversary Gala

The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival honoured 77 individuals, companies, and institutions on Saturday for their contribution and dedication to the history of the capital’s festivities. The Tribute Gala marked the launch of the edition celebrating the Carnival’s 50th Anniversary and also revealed that the first confirmed international artist for the party, which will be held under the ‘Las Vegas’ theme, is Marc Anthony.

A Celebration of Recognised and Anonymous Champions

Among those honoured this Saturday were both well-known professionals and anonymous supporters. The list included everyone from politicians and artists to unsung individuals who have maintained an unbreakable bond with the Carnival. Companies, media outlets, and institutions that have directly backed its growth were also recognised.

Selection by Carnival Experts

The awards, selected and agreed upon by a working group, highlight the enduring links and connections these people and entities have maintained with the Carnival. The selection committee was comprised of the Councillor for Carnival, Héctor Alemán, the artistic director Josué Quevedo, and various well-known Carnival figures including Paco Medina, Rafael Reyes, Esther Galván, Pepe Aguilar, and Miki Ayala.

Gala Attended by Key Figures

The event, held at the Cuyás Theatre, was attended by the Mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias, the Councillor for Carnival, Héctor Alemán, and the artistic director, Josué Quevedo. They were joined by a broad representation from the Carnival world that has been part of the festivities over these five decades.
