Las Palmas Hosts ‘Canarian Christmas’ Music Event

Festive Concert in Plaza de España

Plaza de España in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will host the ‘Canarian Christmas, Music, Sea and Tradition’ event this Saturday, 27 December, at 7:30pm. Promoted by Turismo LPA, the concert will offer the public a musical journey through popular songs and Christmas carols with contemporary arrangements, the city council has announced in a press release.

A Celebration of Canarian Musical Heritage

The ‘parranda’ group Global, accompanied by singer Luz Yamel and ‘timple’ player Alberto González, will perform a ninety-minute repertoire to celebrate the festive spirit and musical traditions of a Canarian Christmas. The event takes place on the last weekend of the year at one of the capital’s main civic and commercial hubs, Plaza de España, next to the Mesa y López boulevard.

Promoting Cultural Identity

The Councillor for Tourism, Local Development and Ciudad de Mar, Pedro Quevedo, noted that the event will be a cultural occasion that “champions the celebration and reaffirmation of our culture and sonic heritage.” He added that events of this nature help to promote the island’s identity.

Plaza de España has already become a reference point for the islands’ traditional music thanks to the Turismo LPA initiative which brings folk groups together at this city location every other Saturday, serving as an example of a public space for community.
