La Palma Students Win National Robotics, Head to World Finals

From La Palma to the World Stage

Three secondary school students from the municipality of Breña Baja on La Palma are putting the Canary Islands on the global map. The team, known as SIRGNEXUS, has just clinched first place at WRO Spain 2025, earning the right to represent the country at the international final of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO). This premier global educational robotics event will be held from November 26th to 28th in Singapore.

A Journey of Champions

After first becoming champions of WRO Canarias 2025, the young team members—Martín Marzo, Aarón Rodríguez, and Martín Cabrera, aged between 13 and 16, along with their coach—went on to secure the national title of Spanish Champions in the Robosport category. Their success demonstrates that a passion for robotics and strong teamwork are key to building a more technological and promising future, taking the names of Spain and the Canaries to the highest international level.

The Prestige of the World Robot Olympiad

The WRO competition in Singapore is one of the most prestigious events in the world within the STEAM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Each year, it brings together teams from over 100 countries to compete in the design, construction, and programming of robots. The challenges they face are inspired by real-world problems, testing their innovation and technical skills.

Mastering Robotic Tennis

In this edition, Team SIRGNEXUS will compete in the RoboSport category, a unique fusion of robotics, strategy, and sportsmanship. This modality involves designing and programming fully autonomous robots that face off in a technological challenge simulating a game of doubles tennis. SIRGNEXUS has excelled in this category thanks to the remarkable precision, agility, and coordination of their robots—the result of months of dedicated work, testing, and refinement.

A Unique Opportunity for Young Talent

Participating in this global event is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these young students. Not only will they showcase their talent and creativity on an international platform, but they will also enjoy an unparalleled educational and cultural experience. The DISA Foundation is supporting this ambitious challenge by backing the team’s journey to Singapore, reaffirming its commitment to innovation, technological education, and fostering young talent in the Canary Islands.
