La Laguna launches network of immersive viewpoints
The City Council of La Laguna has launched a network of immersive viewpoints as a tool to enhance the experience for visitors to the municipality. The San Roque viewpoint is the first to incorporate this new format, offering a panoramic vista of the historic centre and the La Laguna plain.
Blending landscape with augmented reality
The project aims to transform these spaces into virtual tourist information points, combining the scenic value of the surroundings with augmented reality technology. This will allow visitors to identify key tourist attractions visible from the viewpoint, access informative content, and discover the area before exploring it further, the council detailed in a press release.
From observation to interpretation
In this way, the viewpoints evolve from simple observation spots into tools for interpreting the landscape and understanding the relationship between the historic city and its territorial surroundings. The council adds that this initiative is supported by technical studies developed for creating a territorial network of viewpoints and observation points.
A connected network for sustainable tourism
This network is conceived as a connected system designed to organise and diversify the tourist offering, balance visitor flows, and highlight the value of the landscapes. The technical study, prepared by the University of La Laguna, proposes the creation of this interconnected network with the objectives of facilitating the reading and interpretation of the territory, reinforcing the landscape and cultural identity, and promoting more sustainable tourism.
How the San Roque immersive viewpoint works
Specifically, the immersive San Roque viewpoint will feature an information panel with a QR code. Scanning this code with a mobile phone will provide access to an augmented reality application that identifies points of tourist interest visible on the horizon. By selecting each one, users can consult detailed information, 360-degree images, and narrated content in several languages.
