La Laguna Unveils Immersive Viewpoints with Augmented Reality

La Laguna Transforms Scenic Viewpoints into Digital Gateways

The Tourism Department has launched a network of immersive viewpoints, applying this innovative format for the first time at the San Roque viewpoint. From this spot, visitors can enjoy a sweeping panorama of the historic centre and the fertile plain of La Laguna.

How the Augmented Reality Experience Works

The viewpoint will feature an information panel with a QR code. Scanning this code with a mobile phone grants access to an augmented reality application which identifies points of tourist interest visible on the horizon. By selecting each one, users can consult detailed information, 360-degree images, and narrated content in several languages.

From Observation to Interpretation

The project transforms these spaces into virtual tourist information points, combining the scenic value of the environment with augmented reality technology. This allows visitors to identify key tourist resources, access informative content, and discover the territory before exploring it further. Consequently, the viewpoints evolve from mere observation points into tools for interpreting the landscape and understanding the relationship between the historic city and its territorial surroundings.

A Connected Network for Sustainable Tourism

A technical study by the University of La Laguna proposes the creation of a connected territorial network of viewpoints and observation points. The goal is to facilitate the reading and interpretation of the territory, reinforce landscape and cultural identity, and promote a more balanced and sustainable use for tourism. This network does not just offer panoramic views; it transforms these enclaves into spaces for knowledge, environmental education, and understanding of the historical link between the city and its agricultural and natural environment.

Driving Innovation and Memorable Experiences

The Tourism Department believes the viewpoints act as key elements to diversify the tourist offering, redistribute visitor flows, and generate more complete and memorable experiences for both tourists and residents. Councillor Estefanía Díaz stated, “The incorporation of digital and immersive solutions reinforces the innovative character of the project, allowing us to move from merely contemplating the landscape to an interpretive experience that provides context, meaning, and added value.”

She emphasised that the initiative is part of a commitment to a more innovative and experiential form of tourism, which combines heritage, landscape, and technology to offer quality information in an accessible and attractive way. “We want visitors to understand the territory before their eyes, know its main resources, and plan their itinerary in an intuitive, respectful, and enriching way,” she added.

The progressive activation of these spaces will help consolidate a model of experiential tourism that is respectful of the territory and aligned with the municipality’s sustainability and quality tourism strategies. The project is framed within the Tourism Department’s strategy to enhance the offering, reinforce landscape interpretation, and establish La Laguna as a destination that bets on innovation without losing the essence of its territorial and heritage identity.
