Hiker Airlifted from Teide After Trail Fall
A 31-year-old man was rescued by helicopter after suffering an accident while hiking in Teide National Park on Saturday. The incident occurred in the municipality of La Orotava, Tenerife.
Major Emergency Response Activated
The Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES 1-1-2) received an alert shortly after 12:30pm reporting that a person had taken a fall and required assistance on the MontaƱa Blanca trail. In response, a major emergency operation was launched.
Complex Helicopter Rescue
Rescuers from the Canary Islands Government Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) were dispatched by helicopter. The team abseiled from the aircraft to reach the injured hiker. After providing initial first aid, they winched him into the helicopter and evacuated him to the helipad at La Guancha.
Condition and Hospital Transfer
Once on the ground, paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) assessed the hiker. He was found to have a moderate upper limb trauma with no immediate complications. He was subsequently transferred by ambulance to the Hospiten Bellevue University Hospital for further treatment.
Multi-Agency Operation
The rescue operation involved a large contingent of emergency personnel. As well as the GES helicopter crew and SUC paramedics, firefighters from the Tenerife Fire Consortium were on scene. They were supported by members of the Spanish Red Cross Immediate Emergency Response Team (ERIE), the Civil Guard, and staff from the Natural Environment department and Teide National Park itself.
