Fuerteventura en Música Festival Lights Up El Cotillo
Over 15,000 music lovers gathered at La Concha Beach in El Cotillo this weekend for the Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) festival, as reported by the island’s council. The two-night event showcased an eclectic lineup, blending local Canarian sounds with global rhythms, creating an unforgettable atmosphere under the stars.
Friday Night: A Fusion of Flamenco and Folk
The festival kicked off on Friday with headliners G-5, a powerhouse collaboration featuring Kiko Veneno, Muchachito, El Canijo de Jerez, Diego Ratón, and Tomasito. Their energetic set was complemented by performances from Rabiche, Natalia Doco, Calle Mambo, and Lehmanns Brothers, setting the tone for a night of vibrant cross-genre experimentation.
Saturday’s Global Grooves
Saturday’s lineup opened with David El Majorero’s ContraVentura project, reimagining the traditional timple and contra majorera with jazz, rock, and funk influences. Sicilian trumpeter Roy Paci and his band Aretuska brought Mediterranean warmth fused with Latin rhythms, while Trinidad’s Queen Omega & The Royals Souls delivered reggae with Caribbean soul. Baiuca’s pioneering “folktrónica” merged Galician traditions with electronic beats, and Dutch trio Kraak & Smaak closed the festival with a dynamic mix of disco, house, and indie electronica.
More Than Music: Daytime Activities
Beyond the nightly concerts, FEM’s daytime program, organized with Cotillo Joven Association, drew 3,000 attendees to the village for workshops and cultural activities. Host Elisabeth Charlotte and DJ Carballeira kept the energy high, embodying the festival’s spirit of bridging cultures through sound.
