Candelaria Launches Free Circular Shuttle Service

Candelaria’s Free Circular Shuttle Connects Key Areas

Candelaria has launched a free circular shuttle service requiring no tickets or passes – passengers simply hop aboard. This innovative transport solution improves mobility in the town center during extensive renovation works at the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, expected to last over three years. The route connects strategic parking areas with both the main square and Las Caletillas, adapting to ongoing street closures and user feedback.

Popular Service Exceeds Expectations

Mayor Mari Brito expressed satisfaction with the shuttle’s first three months, averaging 200 daily passengers. “We’re delighted by our residents’ and visitors’ positive response,” she noted. Officially named the Coastal Circular Line but locally called the “shuttle micro,” this €101,847 municipal investment represents Candelaria’s commitment to sustainable mobility. Its popularity has prompted consideration of extending the initially one-year pilot project.

Route Improvements and New Stops

Recent route adjustments now serve Las Caletillas via Charco el Musgo, Taunus, and Pedro A. Jiménez Evangelista streets, better connecting hillside residents. A new stop at the Civil Guard barracks provides access while Magdalena Street remains closed for ravine channeling works. After departing the cemetery area, the shuttle incorporates this stop into its regular route, compensating for the temporary pedestrian access challenges caused by significant elevation changes at the construction site.

Part of Candelaria’s Pioneering Transport Network

The Coastal Circular Line joins Candelaria’s innovative Urban and On-Demand Transport system, a Canary Islands benchmark since 2009. The network now includes six additional routes (Barranco Hondo, Igueste, Araya, Las Cuevecitas-Malpaís, Playa La Viuda, and the Mid-Levels Circular) linking to Candelaria’s town center, collectively serving over 30,000 monthly passengers. Operating daily from 6:45 AM to 9:45 PM, including holidays, the shuttle complements recent parking expansions at Rambla Los Menceyes, Las Arenitas Street, and behind Don Sixto’s Warehouses.

Continuous Improvement Through Feedback

The municipality welcomes suggestions for service improvements at [email protected]. This community-focused approach ensures the transport system evolves to meet users’ needs while maintaining Candelaria’s reputation for innovative mobility solutions.
