Car Seized Over Cloned Disabled Parking Permit
Parking in a bay reserved for people with reduced mobility using a fake permit is not just antisocial behaviour—it is a crime. This has been confirmed by the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who seized a vehicle in the Puerto District after discovering it was displaying a cloned Blue Badge.
Routine Inspection Uncovers Fraud
The police action took place during a routine inspection. At first glance, the car appeared to be parked correctly. However, upon checking the displayed parking permit, officers detected clear signs of tampering or forgery. After verifying the identification number, they located the legitimate cardholder.
Legitimate Holder Files Complaint
The genuine badge holder confirmed they were not using the permit at that time and were completely unaware that someone had copied their document. In light of these facts, the police have begun proceedings for the use of a false official document, an offence classified in the Penal Code. Furthermore, the badge holder has formally filed a complaint for the misuse of their identity and official document.
Serious Penalties for Parking Fraud
An investigation is now underway which could lead to significant penalties for the person responsible for the fraud, both from a criminal and an administrative standpoint. Blue Badges (for People with Reduced Mobility) allow those with a recognised disability to park in bays designed to facilitate their mobility in urban environments. They are intended to guarantee basic accessibility rights.
Using a forged badge is not only illegal but also steals resources and rights from those who genuinely need them. In this case, the vehicle was occupying a reserved space, usurping the place of someone who rightfully qualifies for it.
