Medical Evacuation from Cruise Ship Near La Gomera

The Maritime Rescue helicopter Helimer 201 carried out a medical evacuation this Thursday of a crew member aboard the cruise ship Mein Schiff Relax. The vessel was located approximately three nautical miles southwest of La Gomera at the time of the incident.

Details of the Emergency Operation

According to information released by the state-owned society on its social media channels, the ship was en route from Santa Cruz de La Palma to Tenerife. During the journey, the ship’s crew contacted the Maritime Rescue coordination centre in Tenerife to request the medical evacuation of a passenger. The individual in need of assistance was a 75-year-old German tourist.

Transfer to Tenerife for Treatment

In response to the emergency call, the Helimer 201 helicopter was mobilised. It successfully evacuated the passenger and transported him directly to Tenerife North airport. An ambulance was on standby at the airport to receive him and facilitate his transfer to a medical team for urgent treatment.
