Canary Islands Wines Triumph with 91 International Awards

A Triumph for Heroic Viticulture

The Canary Islands’ wine industry has soared to new heights, securing an impressive total of 91 awards at the 33rd edition of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes 2025. Held in Italy’s Aosta Valley on September 20th and 21st, this prestigious competition is organized by the Center for Research, Study, Protection, Coordination, and Valorization of Mountain Viticulture (CERVIM). It specifically celebrates the best wines and wineries from regions practicing “heroic viticulture,” a term for vineyards cultivated in challenging conditions like steep mountainsides, rugged terrain, or small islands.

Dominating the Competition

Out of 298 medals awarded by a jury of 50 international specialists, wines from the Canarian archipelago claimed 85—39 Grand Gold Medals and 46 Gold Medals. The islands also received six special distinctions. Most notably, the Canary Islands were honored with the Mondial Vins Extremes 2025 Award for being the wine region with the highest number of participating productions. This success is even more remarkable considering the competition saw 1,001 entries from 372 wineries across 17 countries.

Top Honors and Special Prizes

The highest accolades were swept up by Canarian wineries. The ‘Brumas de Ayosa Blanco Seco 2024’ from SAT Viticultores Comarca de Güímar-Arafo in Tenerife (DOP Valle de Güímar) achieved an extraordinary triple victory. It won the coveted ‘Gran Premio Cervim’ for the best wine of the entire competition, the ‘Vinofed Prize’ for the highest-rated dry wine, and also received a Grand Gold Medal. The same winery also earned the ‘Cervim Excellence Prize’ and another Grand Gold Medal for its ‘Brumas de Ayosa Tinto Joven 2024’, a wine previously recognized as the best at the last Agrocanarias Contest.

As a result of this outstanding performance, the Bodega Comarcal Valle de Güímar was awarded the ‘Special Cervim Prize’ as the most outstanding producer in Spain, achieving the highest cumulative score across three different categories. Furthermore, the ‘Cervim Original Prize’, which honors the best wine produced from ungrafted vines, was awarded to ‘Airam 2024’ from Bodegas Conatvs, produced in Fuerteventura under the DOP Islas Canarias, which also secured a Grand Gold Medal.

Excellence in Spirits

The winning streak extended to the parallel 5th Edition of the Heroic Distilled Spirits Competition, dedicated to wine-based spirits. Here, the white vermouth ‘Brumas de Ayosa 2024’ from SAT Viticultores de la Comarca de Güímar won the ‘Gran Premio Extreme Spirits’ along with a Grand Gold Medal. Additional Grand Gold Medals were awarded to the dry vermouth ‘Brumas de Ayosa’ and the red vermouth ‘Alejandro Gallo’ from Bodega Gallo & Quíquere.
