Canary Islands Win €4.8m in Tuesday’s El Niño Lottery

Islands Rejoice After Multi-Million Euro Lottery Win

After the Spanish Christmas Lottery largely bypassed the Canary Islands, the archipelago made a spectacular comeback this Tuesday with €4.8 million won by residents of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. A total of 24 tenth-share tickets for the winning number 06703 were sold across the two islands, with each tenth-share holder netting €200,000.

Gran Canaria’s €800,000 Windfall

In Gran Canaria alone, the number drawn at 11:15 am Canary Island time left €800,000 in prizes. Four winning tenths were sold at lottery offices across the island: at Plaza del Pilar in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on Avenida Polizón in Playa de Arinaga, at El Molino in Firgas, and at Luján Pérez in Moya.

Tenerife’s Widespread Celebrations

In Tenerife, the 20 winning tickets were sold at a variety of locations, spreading the joy from north to south. The lucky outlets were in Santa Cruz (at El Corte Inglés, Bethencourt Alfonso, Puerta Canseco, Carretera Nueva, Carretera de Los Andenes, and the Cruce de Las Caletillas), at Los Rodeos airport, on Avenida de Venezuela in Garachico, on Paseo de la Centinela in Icod de los Vinos, on the southern motorway in Granadilla de Abona, and at the BP petrol station in Tacoronte.

A Major Payout From the El Niño Draw

The Extraordinary El Niño Lottery distributed a total of €770 million in prizes nationwide. The top prize was €2 million per full series (€200,000 per tenth-share), followed by a second prize of €750,000 (€75,000 per tenth) and a third prize of €250,000 (€25,000 per tenth). The draw also included prizes for matching the last two, three, and four digits, as well as refunds for tickets ending in the same digit as the first prize. There will be an additional draw.
