Severe Weather Warnings Activated for Saturday
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated several orange and yellow weather warnings for the Canary Islands this Saturday, 13 December. The alerts will have a particular impact on Tenerife and the eastern islands, with rain, wind, storms, and snow at high altitudes forecast. The incoming Atlantic depression will also affect the western islands.
Rain, Storms, and Snow for Tenerife
In Tenerife, skies will be predominantly very cloudy. Rainfall will be more frequent in the north and mid-altitude areas, with locally heavy showers possible. AEMET also warns that some of this rain could be accompanied by thunderstorms, especially around the eastern and central islands.
The snow level is expected to settle around 2,000 metres. This means the Teide and the peaks of Tenerife could see snowfall during the day. Temperatures will see a slight to moderate drop, which will be more noticeable in the daytime highs.
Strong Winds to Lash the Islands
A north wind will be a key feature of this weather front. It will blow with intensity, producing very strong gusts on the eastern and western slopes, as well as in mid-altitude and high areas of Tenerife. Intense gusts are also possible in the eastern islands during the early hours of the day.
