Weather warnings extended for the Canary Islands
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has extended the yellow weather warnings currently active in the Canary Islands through Friday, though further modifications remain possible. The alerts are for high temperatures and calima (Saharan dust haze) and affect all islands in the archipelago.
Tenerife
Tenerife has two active warnings. The first, for heat, is in effect until 8:00 PM this Wednesday. It will reactivate from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Thursday and again from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Friday. The entire island is affected on Wednesday, while the northern part will be exempt from the warning on Thursday and Friday. Maximum temperatures of up to 34°C are expected, particularly in mid-altitude areas and summits below 1,300 meters.
The calima warning affects the entire island and is active until 11:59 PM on Saturday. Visibility is expected to be reduced to just 3,000 meters.
Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria also has two warnings. The heat warning follows the same schedule: until 8:00 PM Wednesday, then 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday, and again 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday. It affects the entire island, with temperatures forecast to reach 36°C, particularly in the Tejeda basin and south and west-facing mid-altitude areas. Locally, temperatures could reach 37°C.
The calima warning is in place for the whole island until 11:59 PM Saturday, with visibility expected to drop to 3,000 meters.
La Palma
On La Palma, the heat warning is active until 8:00 PM Wednesday, then from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday, and again from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday. It affects the western slope and the summits of the island, where temperatures are expected to reach 34°C, especially in mid-altitude areas and summits below 1,300 meters.
The calima warning is active for the entire island until 11:59 PM on Friday, with visibility reduced to 3,000 meters.
La Gomera
La Gomera’s heat warning is in effect until 8:00 PM Wednesday, then 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday, and again 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM Friday. The entire island is affected, with general temperatures of up to 34°C expected, particularly in mid-altitude areas and summits below 1,300 meters.
The island-wide calima warning lasts until 11:59 PM Saturday, with just 3,000 meters of visibility forecast.
El Hierro
El Hierro is under a heat warning until 8:00 PM Wednesday, followed by the same Thursday and Friday schedule (11:00 AM to 8:00 PM). The entire island is affected, with temperatures generally reaching 34°C, most notably in mid-altitude areas and summits below 1,300 meters.
The calima warning for the entire island is active until 11:59 PM Saturday, with visibility expected to be as low as 3,000 meters. In low-lying areas, dust concentrations could exceed 150 micrograms per cubic meter.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote’s heat warning is active until 8:00 PM Wednesday, then from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on both Thursday and Friday. The entire island is affected, especially inland and southeastern areas, where temperatures are forecast to reach 34°C.
The calima warning is island-wide and in effect until 11:59 PM Saturday, with visibility dropping to 3,000 meters. Dust concentrations in low-lying areas may surpass 150 micrograms per cubic meter.
Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is under a heat warning until 8:00 PM Wednesday, reactivating from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Thursday and again on Friday. The warning affects the entire island, particularly inland and southeastern zones, with temperatures expected to reach 34°C.
The calima warning for the whole island lasts until 11:59 PM Saturday. Visibility will be reduced to 3,000 meters, and in low-lying areas, dust concentrations could exceed 150 micrograms per cubic meter.
