Canary Islands to Invest €3.1m in New Hospital Ultrasound Scanners

Major Investment in Medical Technology for Canary Islands Hospitals

The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) has put out to tender a contract worth €3,119,870 (including taxes) for the supply, installation, commissioning, and warranty maintenance of 37 ultrasound scanners. The equipment is destined for various hospital centres across the SCS network.

EU-Funded Modernisation Drive

According to the Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Health, this initiative is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER). It falls under the Canary Islands FEDER 2021-2027 programme, which aims to drive strategic investments that contribute to modernising the healthcare system, technological innovation, and improving the quality of care across the entire archipelago.

Tender Structured into Seven Lots

The tender is structured into seven lots, allowing the equipment to be tailored to the clinical and functional needs of different hospital departments. For general clinical use, two lots have been tendered. These include eight scanners for Assisted Human Reproduction units and three units for Paediatric Intensive Care Units.

Addressing specialised needs, the remaining five lots correspond to: thirteen scanners for In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) units; two units for adult Cardiology departments; two for Paediatric Cardiology; eight for Radiology services; and one scanner for Intensive Care Units (ICU). These will incorporate advanced technology for highly specialised procedures.

Contract Details and Submission Deadline

The contract, identified with reference SUM/2025/0000146225 on the Public Sector Procurement Platform, has an execution period of five months. It is subject to harmonised regulation under EU Public Procurement Directive 2014/24/EU.

Interested companies may submit their bids electronically until 15:00 on 19 January 2026. The platform’s clock is set to mainland Spanish time. Tenders must explicitly declare that the equipment offered is newly manufactured. Used, refurbished, or reconditioned equipment, or systems with reused components, will not be accepted under any circumstances. All elements of the systems must be in active production and not discontinued or nearing discontinuation.
