Canary Islands Launches €18M Green Mobility Incentive Program

Canary Islands Boosts Green Mobility with €18.3M Incentive Program

The Canary Islands Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy has launched the 2025 edition of its MOVES III program, allocating €18,342,808 in incentives to promote sustainable transportation across the archipelago. Funded by Spain’s Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), the initiative supports both electric vehicle purchases and charging infrastructure development.

Application Details and Funding Breakdown

The application period opens the business day after official publication in the Canary Islands Gazette and runs through December 31, 2025. Eligible vehicles purchased from January 1, 2025 onward qualify for subsidies. The program divides its €18.3 million budget into two streams: €12.1 million for electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and €5.1 million for charging stations.

Substantial Grants Available

Residents and businesses can receive up to €7,000 for fuel cell vehicles (including trade-in bonuses) or €4,500 without trading in older vehicles. Commercial vehicles like vans qualify for €9,000 grants when replacing older models. Charging station installations may receive up to €5,000 per application.

Building on Previous Success

Mariano H. Zapata, Minister of Ecological Transition, highlighted the program’s track record: the 2021-2024 edition distributed €33 million for vehicle purchases and €19.8 million for charging points. “We’re fully committed to electric mobility,” Zapata stated, noting its environmental, economic and social benefits for the islands’ decarbonization efforts.

Complementary Green Initiatives

The MOVES III program aligns with other sustainability measures like the Green Transition 2025 plan, co-funded by EU FEDER funds, which promotes renewable energy, smart grids and energy storage systems.
