Widespread Flight Disruption Across the Archipelago

Airports across the Canary Islands experienced significant disruption on Saturday, with a total of 20 flight cancellations and four diversions due to adverse weather. According to data provided by the Spanish airport operator Aena, the cancellations primarily affected inter-island flights, while two of the diversions were international operations.

El Hierro and La Gomera Bear the Brunt

The disruption was most acute at El Hierro Airport, which saw 11 cancellations. Of these, five were flights from Tenerife North and four were services to Tenerife North, with two further cancellations on routes to and from Gran Canaria.

La Gomera Airport also faced severe issues, with one flight from Gran Canaria forced to return to its origin, constituting a diversion. A further seven flights were cancelled at the airport: two from La Gomera to Gran Canaria, one from Gran Canaria, two from Tenerife North, and two destined for Tenerife North.

International Flights Diverted to Gran Canaria

At La Palma Airport, two cancellations were recorded—one from and one to Tenerife North. Additionally, two international flights were diverted to Gran Canaria Airport. These were services originating from Düsseldorf and Frankfurt.
