Busy skies for the festive bridge
The network of Aena airports in the Canary Islands is gearing up for a total of 5,689 flights over the Constitution Day long weekend, from Friday 5 December to Monday 8 December. According to data provided to Europa Press by the airport operator, Saturday is set to be the busiest day with 1,629 movements. Compared to the same holiday period in 2024, the Canary Islands airports are expecting eight fewer flights this year, a slight decrease of 0.14%.
Day-by-day flight analysis
The detailed schedule shows a mixed picture across the four days. This Friday, 5 December, 1,397 flights are scheduled to operate across the archipelago, representing a 3% increase compared to 5 December 2024. Saturday is forecast for 1,629 flights, a significant rise of 25.5%. However, traffic is expected to dip on Sunday, with 1,346 flights representing a 13.1% fall. The trend continues on Monday, 8 December, with 1,317 flights scheduled, an 11.8% decrease.
Island-by-island breakdown
Gran Canaria Airport will be the busiest hub over the long weekend, handling 1,759 operations. It is followed by Tenerife South (1,082), Tenerife North (956), César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport (844), and Fuerteventura Airport (630). Furthermore, La Palma will register 314 flights during the four-day period, El Hierro will see a total of 72, and the island of La Gomera will have 32 operations. La Gomera is the only airport maintaining exactly the same number of flights as it did a year ago.
Biggest risers and fallers
Comparing airport activity to the same long weekend in 2024 reveals notable changes. Tenerife North Airport shows the strongest growth, with 58 more operations scheduled. In contrast, Tenerife South Airport is set for the largest decline, with 59 fewer flights over this year’s bridge period.
