New Ferry Joins Huelva-Canarias Route from January 2026

New Ferry for Key Huelva-Canarias Maritime Route

The ferry operators Baleària and Fred. Olsen Express are introducing the vessel Buenavista Express to the route between Huelva and the Canary Islands. It will take over from the ferry Sicilia from 24th January 2026. From that date, the connection will be operated by the Marie Curie and the Buenavista Express, maintaining what the company describes as “a reliable, efficient service adapted for passengers and roll-on/roll-off freight.”

Inaugural Journey and Route Significance

According to a press release from the company, the Buenavista Express will make its first voyage on 24th January, departing from the Port of Huelva bound for Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This marks its operational incorporation into this key maritime line between mainland Spain and the archipelago. After more than seven years of joint service, this connection has become established as one of the principal ferry routes between the Canaries and the mainland, for both passenger and freight transport.

Vessel Specifications and Onboard Amenities

The Buenavista Express is a ROPAX-type ship capable of transporting up to 1,850 linear metres of cargo. With a length of 172 metres, it can reach a maximum speed of 21.5 knots. Its facilities include capacity for 1,250 passengers and 390 vehicles, with more than 200 cabins (double and quadruple) providing berths for 750 passengers. There are also nearly 550 seats in various configurations, cafés, restaurant services, and terraces.

Furthermore, the ferry will feature special provisions for pets, cabins adapted for passengers with reduced mobility, and other services characteristic of this maritime route.
