Storm Francis Disrupts Canary Islands Flights on New Year’s Day

Storm Francis Disrupts Air Travel Across the Archipelago

The effects of Storm Francis began to be felt across the Canary Islands today, Thursday 1st January, with five flight cancellations already confirmed. The disruptions have primarily affected connections between the islands of La Palma and Tenerife, according to reports from the Spanish airport authority, Aena.

Specific Cancellations and Diversions

So far, there have been two cancellations on routes between La Palma Airport and Tenerife North Airport, plus an additional cancelled flight from Tenerife North to La Palma. Furthermore, two flights—one from Tenerife North to La Palma and another from Tenerife South to La Palma—were initially diverted. Both of these diversions ultimately resulted in full cancellations.

Passenger Advice Amid Adverse Weather

In light of the adverse weather conditions brought by the storm, the air navigation manager, Enaire, is strongly advising passengers to check the status of their flights before travelling. The authority has indicated that safety regulations are currently in effect at Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Tenerife South airports due to the storm’s impact, which may cause further delays and disruptions.
