New Year’s Day sea swim postponed on safety grounds
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife council has taken the decision to postpone the San Salitre 2026 event, which was due to take place tomorrow, 1st January. The postponement comes in response to a high probability of winds exceeding force 4 during the scheduled time slot. The move is based on safety and preventative criteria, aiming to guarantee the wellbeing of participants, technical staff, and spectators, as adverse weather conditions could affect both the normal running of the event and safety in the maritime and coastal environment.
New date confirmed for fifth edition
The new date for the fifth edition of the San Salitre has been set for Sunday, 11th January, once weather forecasts ensure a more favourable scenario. The event will be held in Valleseco, at the well-known El Bloque bathing area. It is organised by the Sports Department of Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, with technical direction by Gesport Canarias and the collaboration of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Event schedule and popular “First Swim”
The children’s races will begin at 11:00 hours, with the adult race starting at 11:30. Alongside the competitive races, the San Salitre will once again feature the traditional “First Swim of the Year”, a fun and participatory category which will award prizes for the most original spirit and the most creative outfit.
