Arona’s Landmark Year: Tourism Success in Tenerife’s South

A Year of Tourism Consolidation in Arona

The year 2025 has been an intense and consolidating one for tourism in Arona. This key tourist municipality in the south of Tenerife, with over 15 kilometres of coastline encompassing destinations like Playa de Las Américas, Los Cristianos, Costa del Silencio and Las Galletas, has capped a year of heightened promotional activity. Alongside its coastal resorts, the inland areas and the historic old town of Arona, with its strong Canarian traditions, complete the offering. The year saw intensified promotion in national and international markets, an enhanced portfolio of experiences for all visitor profiles—especially high-level athletes—and a strengthened presence for Arona at the sector’s major events.

Strategic Presence at Key Trade Fairs

One of the most notable initiatives was Arona’s participation in leading tourism trade fairs. Early in the year, the destination was present at FITUR 2025, the International Tourism Fair in Madrid. Here, the municipality’s tourist offer was presented as a top-tier destination with a wide variety of proposals, quality services, and powerful accommodation infrastructure. Participation not only showcased the destination’s attractions but also its public-private collaboration with major hotels and tourism groups. In the realm of institutional promotion, Arona also took part in the Turespaña 2025 Convention in Cáceres, reinforcing its destination model focused on continuous improvement of the visitor experience and diversification.

A Packed Calendar of Cultural and Musical Events

Arona’s events agenda has been particularly active throughout 2025, covering a broad calendar. The programme included everything from cultural and gastronomic activities to concerts and sports championships that have attracted visitors and energised the municipality’s tourist and social life. Relevant examples include the continuation of the Arona Folk Fest 2025–2026 in Los Cristianos, and the staging of a major musical event like the Manuel Turizo concert (October 2025) at the Anexo del Estadio Antonio Domínguez. This concert placed Arona firmly on the circuit for major international performances.

Becoming a Hub for Premier Sports Events

In sports, Arona has reinforced its brand as an active destination with top-tier competitions and events with external appeal. These included the XIV International Arona Tenerife Combined Events Meeting, held on the 21st and 22nd of June at Playa de Las Américas; the Spring Surfest Las Américas Pro, which took place between late November and early December at Playa de Las Américas; and the “Las Américas Boxing Championships: La Revancha” evening, held on the 5th of September, which consolidated the calendar of major events in the municipality.

Open-water swimming also played a prominent role with the II “The Blue Challenge” Swimming Crossing, held on the 9th of November, starting and finishing at Playa de Los Cristianos. This strengthened the sport-tourism link during the shoulder season. Furthermore, local sport projected Arona’s name beyond the Canaries with milestones like the participation of the Club Natación Los Cristianos in the World Masters Swimming Championships in Singapore (5th–15th August 2025), representing the municipality at a top-level international meet.

Gastronomy, Local Culture and Sector Coordination

The offer of gastronomic activities and experiences linked to local culture has also been prominent. Throughout the year, proposals connected to Canarian produce and local identity have been developed, enhancing the visitor experience beyond sun and beach and connecting gastronomy, tradition, and environment. Parallel to events and promotion, it has been a year of intense work coordinating with the local business sector—travel agencies, tour operators, accommodation, commerce, and tourist services—aiming to tailor the offer to market expectations and needs.

A National Leadership Role and Future Foundations

In this vein, Arona closed 2025 with an institutional milestone of national projection: it assumed the presidency of the Alliance of Sun and Beach Tourist Municipalities (AMT). This organisation integrates leading destinations like Adeje, Benidorm, Calvià, Lloret de Mar, Salou, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Torremolinos, strengthening Arona’s position in the forums where the future of Spanish tourism is decided.

Work has focused on family, sports, cultural, and experiential tourism. Initiatives linked to sport, combined events, competitive surfing, contact sports events, and open-water swimming attract participants and enthusiasts, enriching the traditional tourist offer and helping to combat seasonality. The tourist information offices spread across strategic points like Playa de Las Américas, Los Cristianos, Playa de Las Vistas and Las Galletas have played an active role in informing visitors and facilitating communication points between the destination and its guests.

According to Arona’s Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Tourism, Naím Yánez Alonso, “Arona has reinforced its image as a consolidated and recognisable destination, combining the strength of its main tourist areas with a varied proposal of activities, services and experiences.” Its climate, coastal geography, and diverse offering remain fundamental pillars for attracting visitors in peak and shoulder seasons, as well as for meeting the demands of tourists with different profiles.

The year 2025 has demonstrated that Arona has continued to advance its objectives of promotion, positioning, and tourist dynamism. The combination of presence at events, cultural and leisure programming, alliances with tourism businesses, and a sports and music agenda with big names has consolidated a year of positive results. Looking ahead to 2026, the foundations laid will allow for continued strengthening of the municipality’s tourist projection, adapting to market trends and meeting the expectations of those who choose Arona as a holiday destination.
