Major Tender Launched for TF-5 Expansion
The Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility has launched the tender for works to add a third lane to the TF-5 motorway between Guamasa and Tenerife North Airport, in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The government describes this as a strategic project to improve the capacity and flow of traffic on this key transport artery.
Project Details and Budget
The project has a base tender budget of €66,401,344.71, and interested companies can submit bids until 9 February. The stretch from Guamasa to the Airport will be widened from two to three lanes, allowing it to absorb more traffic at one of the most congested points on the island’s road network.
Junction Remodelling and New Airport Link
The project includes the remodelling of the Guamasa and San Lázaro junctions, as well as the construction of a new direct link to Tenerife North Airport. This new layout will separate traffic heading to and from the north and south of the island.
Consequently, vehicles arriving from the north will access the airport via the new Airport Link, rather than continuing to San Lázaro as is currently the case. The ministry states that this reorganisation will allow a portion of traffic to exit the most congested section of the TF-5 earlier, directly contributing to an overall improvement in traffic flow.
