Tenerife’s Magical Christmas House Celebrates 30th Anniversary

A Christmas Dream in Tenerife

In Tenerife, there is a place where Christmas dreams come true. In the purest style of decorated neighbourhoods in the United States or Lapland, a house has been transformed into an authentic spectacle of lights, adorned from the door to the chimney. This year, it also celebrates its 30th anniversary—three decades since its owner decided to fill the home with magic and wonder so that anyone passing by could enjoy an unforgettable Christmas.

Three Decades of Festive Tradition

Located in Valle de Guerra, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, ‘La Casa más Navideña de Canarias’ (‘The Most Christmassy House in the Canaries’), as its owner Lorenzo Barroso calls it, has opened its doors once again this year, as it has every year since 1995. What began as a neighbour decorating his home has transformed into one of the island’s most emblematic traditions. This magical place offers everyone the chance to enjoy free shows and admire dazzling Christmas lights.

A Dazzling Display of Lights

The house, situated at 189 El Boquerón road, is covered with 80,000 LED lights that illuminate the night and can be seen from quite a distance. Every year, the decoration grows with the addition of new festive elements, turning this home into a true visual spectacle. It all began with a string of blue lights that Lorenzo’s mother bought and put on the front door, at a time when decorating houses for Christmas was not yet a widespread custom. Since then, the tradition has grown to now include curtains of light, illuminated trees, and a giant Father Christmas, which have become recognisable symbols of this magical Tenerife home.

A Grand Opening for a Special Anniversary

Last Sunday, 30th November, this year’s lighting was inaugurated with a special show organised for the 30th Anniversary of ‘La Casa Más Mágica de Canarias’. Hundreds of people attended to enjoy the impressive illumination, which included performances and dances in front of the house’s entrance. The police even had to close the road to facilitate access for all attendees and allow them to witness the switch-on.

Planning and Community Spirit

Lorenzo Barroso has shared the assembly process of this stunning decoration on his social media. Planning begins in the summer and features handmade pieces that he creates himself with the help of family and friends. On his Instagram (@lorenzos_xmas), you can see how he involves more people to collaborate in setting up and decorating his home, while passing cars don’t miss a detail of the announcement about the opening.

Visit and Support a Good Cause

When the sun sets and the lights turn on, don’t hesitate to visit the ‘Casa más Navideña de Canarias’. This year, it will also host a charitable event: on 6th December, a toy collection will be held at its door from 18:00 to 20:00.
