Gran Canaria Town Creates 200-Metre Chocolate Turrón for Charity

Sweet solidarity in Mogán

The municipality of Mogán in Gran Canaria successfully created a 200-metre-long chocolate turrón during the day yesterday, Saturday. The event was driven by the Town Hall in collaboration with the brand Tirma, chef Aridane Rivero, pastry chef Yeray Reyes, and the Felo Monzón Grau Bassas Vocational Training Centre.

A charitable treat for all

Everyone who participated in the tasting made a symbolic contribution of one euro, with the entire proceeds going to the Tabaiba Moya Alzheimer’s Family Association (AFA). This organisation works to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families. The Town Hall confirmed that a total of 240 kilos of chocolate, 70 kilos of hazelnut praline, and 80 kilos of Tirma ‘ambrosías’ filling were used to make the turrón, which stretched along Magistral Marrero and Miguel Hernández streets.

Furthermore, a two-metre section of gluten-free and nut-free turrón was made so that everyone could enjoy and sweeten their afternoon.

A community effort

The charitable turrón was the work of sixty people, including pastry chefs from local businesses: La Dama del Pan, Bizcochos de Moya Doramas, Panadería Fermín Suárez Santana, and Tartería Ca’Mi Suegra. Mayor Raúl Afonso commented, “This is an initiative that shows and demonstrates the charitable commitment of our municipality, proving that a gastronomic event has become a real action of support for those who need it most.”

He added, “The collaboration between the Town Hall, Tirma, professionals in the sector like Aridane and Yeray Reyes, as well as the CIFP Felo Monzón Grau Bassas has been key to making this event a complete success.”
