New Cycle Lane Tender Launched for Maspalomas Paseo
The Maspalomas Gran Canaria Consortium has initiated the tender process for the construction of a cycle lane along the Maspalomas Meloneras Paseo. This strategic project is designed to enhance sustainable mobility and connectivity in one of the main tourist hubs on the south coast of Gran Canaria.
Project Details and Funding
The tender, aimed at companies in the public works and infrastructure sector, has a base budget of €467,289.72. It falls under the ‘Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination: Impulso a Maspalomas’, which is financed by European Next Generation EU funds as part of the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The administrative body is inviting interested companies to bid for this procedure, which will deliver key infrastructure to improve cycling accessibility and manage mobility in this high-traffic tourist environment.
Route and Integration Plans
The project involves creating new zones and routes for cyclists, ensuring a safe, continuous, and functional connection between the public highway and the Meloneras seafront promenade. The work will take place on and around Mar Mediterráneo, Mar Caspio, Mar de Siberia, and Mar de Noriega streets, as well as various pedestrian areas and green spaces in the vicinity. This will integrate the new cycle network with the existing road system.
Budget Adjustments and Key Works
This new tender follows an update to the project due to increased construction costs and difficulties in sourcing qualified labour. Consequently, budget items have been adjusted by removing or scaling back non-essential elements and updating the overall budget. This aims to encourage more companies to bid and guarantee the project’s viability.
The main works planned include road surface painting, paving and asphalt laying, re-paving, and the installation of road signage. These improvements will enhance the safety and functionality of the cycling route for both residents and visitors.
A Step Towards Sustainable Tourism
San Bartolomé de Tirajana, established since the 1990s as one of the archipelago’s premier tourist destinations, continues to progress towards a more sustainable, efficient, and environmentally friendly mobility model. This initiative aligns with European objectives for ecological transition and improving the quality of the tourist destination.
How to Submit a Bid
Interested companies can submit their offers until 23:59 on Monday, 5 January 2026, via the Spanish State Procurement Platform, where all the procedure’s documentation is available.
