Snow Frenzy Causes Teide Traffic Chaos
The novelty of accessing Teide National Park to be among the first to see and touch the snow led to hundreds of people crowding the northern access road on Tuesday morning, 16 December. More than a hundred cars were left stationary at the point where the road up to Teide via La Orotava was closed, as drivers waited for the much-anticipated reopening, which finally happened at around 11:20am.
Celebration as Roads Reopen
Cheers and clamour marked the moment access was granted to the National Park, allowing visitors to enjoy the snow left by Storm Emilia. In anticipation of the high volume of visitors expected today, the Cabildo de Tenerife has preemptively activated the Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) at a pre-alert level. This measure aims to guarantee the safety of all those wishing to visit Teide until Friday.
Designated Access Routes and Safety Measures
Access to the National Park is permitted via the TF-21 road (from La Orotava), the TF-38 (from Chío), and the TF-21 (from Vilaflor). To manage traffic flow, descents must be made via the TF-24 (La Esperanza) for those who accessed the park from the north, or via the same ascent routes for those coming from the south.
